ASML was never an American company. It started as a joint venture between the Dutch Phillips and the equally Dutch ASM, and when it became an independent company it remained in the Netherlands. Did you know non American companies are also allowed to have English names?

This is even funnier when you consider how prevalent English is in NL.
It’s hilarious since PMEX is also English probably.
Lol, wat?
It was never American, it is not French. Rent a globe.
I believe it was bootstrapped with tech from Philips. I didn’t know it was American.
It isn’t. Even though it has an English name it was always based on the Netherlands.
when it changed from American company to Dutch, not French :D
Quoting ASML themselves (from here: https://www.asml.com/en/company/about-asml/history)
In 1984, electronics giant Philips and chip-machine manufacturer Advanced Semiconductor Materials International (ASMI) created a new company to develop lithography systems for the growing semiconductor market. Called ASM Lithography, we began our days inauspiciously, located in a leaky shed next to a Philips office in Eindhoven, the Netherlands
It was a Phillips spinoff company. I don’t know if it was independent or just guys from Phillips asked to start a new company under an umbrella company.
