AN/M2: exists
I’ve used both M2 and mg3 (which is basically a rechambered mg42), and while both are excellent for their intended role, only one of them can be fired on the move. Not effectively, but it works, and repositioning is easy.
M2 is a pita to move around in any circumstance
So I understand that by the end of WW1 they’ d figured out how to avoid trench warfare and take out gun nests, but nobody ever explained the tactics. Do you know?

I don’t understand this.
But the end of this page credits storm troopers, armed with light machine guns (new technology) and hand grenades for breaking the stalemate of trench warfare.
