Backstory: I’m back into 3D printing and got an Elegoo Centauri Carbon 2 back while they were on sale for cheap, and just finally got it unboxed and set up over the weekend. I got it because I wanted to prototype some shop tools for my guitar amp repair hobby/side hustle, and I like the idea of being able to remix my own Fredman clips for studio shenanigans (e.g., different angles, different microphone body sizes, etc.).
So, naturally, I had to scrape together some random models from Thingiverse, stitch them together, and try out the multi-color print functionality in the most “IRL shitpost” way that I could think of at the time. This is printed with 100% infill and staggered concentric walls, so it might actually be functional. Surface ironing got rid of some of the hatching, but that black filament has been in storage for like 8 years and was never that great to begin with – still, I’m surprised at the results.
This was really more of a proof of concept for doing some high-rigidity settings in the slicer software as a preparation step for making some adjustable machinist’s screw-style jack stands for keeping a tube amplifier chassis suspended off the bench with the circuit exposed and as much space as I need to keep the power tubes lifted up. PLA isn’t my first choice around that much heat, but HT-PLA should more than handle it as long as the stand isn’t directly touching a tube that has gone into thermal runaway.
I’m trying to imagine the type of person who buys this because it implies so many different things.

You’re on the way back from the dog park with your two golden retrievers, Sunny and Zoë, and they’re riding in the back seat of your Subaru Forester when suddenly, they get into a bit of a tiff. In order to break it up, you have to let Sunny ride shotgun the rest of the way home. She’s heavy enough that the car disables the passenger airbags, but that god-awful seat belt chime keeps going off and you just want to get home to a nice jar of pickles and a box of wine, and the dog HATES having the shoulder strap running behind her so, enter the silencer. Show your pride while you and your fur-babies ride in silence as you let the world know that the Tom Jane Punisher was actually a pretty banger capeslop flick.

As far as making something useful, I did end up remixing a breadboard component bending jig to fit these big chungus 5 watt wirewound resistors for a Mesa Dual Rec that I’m refurbishing:
The Dual Rec came with 3-watt screen grid resistors and the magic smoke got out of one of them when some numbnuts managed to insert a tube the wrong way. I’m upgrading to 5 watt resistors that are slightly wider, so I want to make sure I have some strain relief on the leads, and I also want it to be uniform across all four of these chonky bois. Is it necessary? Debatable. Will it maybe not look like liquefied dog shit? That’s the plan. That and not hurting those delicate-as-a-summer’s-breeze PCB solder pads because frigging Mesa Bougie can’t do a PCB layout to save their lives.
Can it open a beer bottle tho?
Depends on how much you like not-so-microplastics in your beer. Or in your seat belt latches, for that matter.
