I had put off visiting former neighbors in a nursing home* until I got my house in order and had planned to go yesterday. One was in the end stages of cancer, I missed him by about 12 hours. On top of this, I heard about the holier-than-thou, rent-seeking type of neighbor (who incidentally is also an evangelist) visiting him two or three days before he passed, and telling him to beg G-d for forgiveness for all the nasty things he did, when well.
It’s going to be hard to keep my mouth shut and not tell her to do the same. Why keep quiet? If I say anything, she’ll use it as justification and confirmation that she’s doing G-d’s work, being “persecuted” for it, and go harder.
Adulting, bleh.
im pretty sure that people at the end of their life just want to go in peace and understand the ins and out of life. i think that they were only disturbed by that person coming in to tell them some bullshit
I think the same. I hope I don’t end up being like that lady.
They are having my friend’s wake and funeral today, not at his church, but the church where the wretch who told him to beg forgiveness stepfather is the pastor. His burial tomorrow will be at his home church cemetery. If my elderly neighbor didn’t want to attend the wake, I would skip it and attend graveside only.
I attended the funeral, and it was righteous, good, and pure. I asked a neighbor why it was there, and she said because an estranged relative covered all the costs and that’s where my sibling went when he wanted to attend, because he had no transportation and was able to walk there.
It was also tacky at the end of the service when the funeral director plugged his business, complete with both locations. I really hope my kid composts me, or at least buries me on their little piece of dirt, with no formaldehyde, and maybe chunks a peach or lemon tree on top, or one of the date palms I planted on a whim that’s doing marvelously, for a marker. My friend doesn’t have a marker yet. I plan to remedy that with one of my beloved plants. Maybe oregano or rosemary.
