This was a 3rd run after the issue started.
At first I got 40% packet loss, then 2%, and finally, 0% somehow.
Where even are the packets for that long?
0% packet loss is really impressive.
How can the caches of intermediate systems even be large enough to presumably store 100 seconds of incoming traffic?

Using a network connection as a storage medium? What a fascinating idea

Whatever your network topology is, the buffers are keeping all of the packets for reconnection, that’s why you have 0% packet loss. So either you have very constrained links, and huge packet buffers, or you have very long links (moon and back a few times)
Try the same test with iperf3, see if you can characterize the buffer depth of your critical path
This was just a random slow down for around 5 minutes. Can’t reproduce :(
