I live in Switzerland and until proven otherwise, I think we have the best cartography in the world. map.geo.admin.ch and the Swisstopo app are absolute treasures to plan hikes.

At the moment I am trying to plan a hike in France where I cannot use the swiss map. I have tried several layers of Openstreetmaps but I don’t find any that seem as good to show the relief, the walking paths, public transport stops and type of terrain.

What is your go-to cartography option?

    Alltrails to find popular trails

    Caltopo to build my own.

    Caltopo is the best.

Immediate login window on open? Hmm I’d rather not. Unlikely that you live in Colorado but you can compare the apps, try COTrex, I bet it’s better than caltopo.

So did you try it? Like I said, not going to create a sign up to test all of these, whereas the Colorado app is completely free no sign in needed

Yes I tried it, it is hot garbage next to caltopo. You’re making comparative presumptions against something you refuse to try. I will not take anything you say about the matter seriously.

Then list the things that are better. It’s pretty clear you are just acting out incredibly emotionally for zero reason than to defend what you think is the better app. If it’s actually better you should have a list of reasons.

                Catch my block list. ✌️

Not gonna keep people in my feed that just complain for the sake of being contrarian. Have fun with your shitty app.

lol so no list then. Alrighty. For anyone else coming here, don’t use caltopo. This person is most likely working for them. Unable to give a list of reasons why you should use the application, blocks people who ask why, and thinks that free apps that need no login are worse.

Up until they got bought and ruined, the hiking project was my favorite. So now I’m using Komoot (iOS). No issues so far but it’s been 2 weeks.

CoTrex for Colorado is essentially all you could ever ask for in a map software. You can make any arbitrary route, even one across a mountain with no paths, easy to share exact coordinates, easy to see what paths can be used for, easy to see topo. Etc
