Well… I dont really care about being good and just or about being some paragon of virtue. I dont even tend to view myself through that lens.
My being a leftist is rooted in something much more personal… survival. The survival of myself and the survival of my people.
A white, cishet person has in many ways, the greatest luxury of all: they get to choose.
They can choose to concern themselves with injustice or to look away. They can choose to be good or evil, to engage with politics or simply live their life without it ever becoming an immediate matter of survival.
I don’t feel like I have that same luxury. I don’t feel like I was ever really given that choice.
And I think, if Im honest, that has always bothered me.
Same.
