Too close for comfort. There’s a lot of undecideds and this Alexander is splitting the right vote. Give her money or volunteer if you can in order to get more of that undecided vote to her.
So Alexander just entered the race: https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/former-mp-chris-alexander-running-for-toronto-mayor-9.7288453. Weird.
You’re right. Way too close for comfort!
I think Alexander is running to eventually drop out and tell his galvanized supporters to vote for Bad Badford.
A similar thing happened with the DNC in the US when they had a record number of candidates running against Bernie with a variety of policies just for all of them to eventually drop out and ask their base to vote for Biden.
Conservatives ALWAYS play dirty. It drives me insane that so much of the population actively supports such antisocial behavior
Maybe maybe maybe. I wonder what the benefit of this tactic is though. Maybe it does chunk off some votes away from the target by luring them with promises slightly different than their ally.
But yeah, the right tends to be organized so running a candidate that splits the right vote is suspicious.
There are a couple of concepts but what comes to mind most is “Stalking Horse”
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stalking_horse
Basically a fake candidate with no hope of winning just to test the water on certain policies so they can eventually pull out and the other candidate assumes the winning policies + endorsement from fake candidate (and therefore their voter base).
40% + 10% is more than enough to win over Chow.
