I dislike paywalls for random websites that I’d never subscribe to, but I didn’t get a paywall message this time.

Williams insisted he was not defending the rich, but rather defending “the principle that one day I could become rich, if absolutely everything that has ever happened to me suddenly started going completely differently.”

I guess the only parody in this quote is that he’s actually self-aware and saying it out loud.

But for me, I’ve never been poor, but there have been times where I didn’t have the money to pay a bill and had to survive on credit card debt. At the time, it never occurred to me to favor rich people. So I didn’t understand people like that back then.

Now that I’ve saved enough to retire, I still don’t understand people like that. I have more money saved, so I can afford to pay more if the government wants to tax me more.

I don’t need people who can’t make ends meet to also worry about my taxes. The very idea is bonkers.
