If this is Robots (2005), the parents have to save for upgrades to make the child bigger and if they can’t afford the upgrades, their child may turn out stunted and unable to survive on their own.

If it’s Nier: Automata… all of the robots are technically the same, but robot societal structure causes some to act as children and others as mommies or daddies. There’s no material reasons for these differences, the robots emulate human structures in order to attain humanity. some are programmed to act childish so you will pity them. Do not pay it any attention. They have to be destroyed.
