I picked out this… thing. The duvet cover had eaten everything in the machine and turned itself into a postmodern textile art piece.
Concrete the washer into the wall.

That’s exactly why I always tie a knot in the middle of large things like this lol
I never had duvet covers do this. Fitted sheets however 💀. Now, I put them into a big laundry bag I’ve bought at a large coffee roastery.
You know. I didn’t think about doing that for the dryer. The fitted sheets always eat the rest and then I have a jelly-roll style sheet conglomeration.
Oh nice, it doesn’t pull the knot too tight?
You have you keep it somewhat loose, just make it so it can’t easily catch other things
I’ve never had that happen personally.
How is that even possible! Why is it a topological torus??
It took me time to find the opening and then to accept that it isn’t ripped anywhere. My only explanation is that it took a tumble into the fourth dimension.
Did it come out with unmatched socks inside of it?
Now that you mentioned it, I think I threw the other one away in 2007.
when you put predator and pray in the same fish tank
Ugh fuck duvet covers they’ll eat themselves even if they’re closed and the only thing in there
Duvets are the worst, it’s like the ultimate boss fight for my dryer
You have to button them (duvet covers) up again before you wash them. I regret it every time I don’t.
Yours have buttons?!
clarifying - duvet COVERS, not the duvet itself.
Some (more expensive) have buttons, some (IKEA) have poppers, all of them have something though?
Mine are fairly cheap (but feels good) and all they have is just a narrower opening on the foot end. No buttons of any sort. Old, new, doesn’t matter. None have buttons.
You have to do them with just like the fitted sheet and pillow cases.
I still think one swallowed a pillow case and now I can never find the matching one anymore.
You can also use a laundry mesh bag, put either the duvet or the rest in the bag and it will not happen. Laundry bags are also useful to protect clothes with elastics from being stretched and damaged.
It’s official. You are the chosen one, and this is your legendary weapon.
Well okay then I guess
If you washing machine has a Bedding setting then try using that. It prevents this from happening, at least of front loading machines.
Mine has one that says waterproof… What the hell is that for?
Cleaning things that are hydrophobic
Well, yeah waterproof, but I guess what I mean is how is that cycle any different?
I assume the soaking cycle times are different? I feel like they would be longer in this case? I don’t know the chemistry of detergents, water, and hydrophobic molecules (used in clothing) but I assume the automation either increases soaking time for stain penetration or decrease it if it doesn’t matter. ,
Aha, I’ll check it out. Thanks!
You’re my hero heydo
Wash separately

First thought: “why are they holding their baby like that?”
After scrolling down: “oh”
I got some silicone rubber bands from Amazon a few years ago and I use them to tie the four corners of sheets and blankets together before washing and drying. Does a great job keeping them from entangling other items in the machine.
you pulled out the washing machine’s intestines
Or it made a perfect rotisserie chicken holder.
