Fixed that. I always thought of editing as a no no because it changes the sounding of what others posted but hey new year new me.

You might want to encourage your friends to get Mastodon accounts. Mastodon is federated like Lemmy, and there’s a mastodon.au instance. There’s a beginners guide here: https://www.thewindowsclub.com/how-to-use-mastodon-social-beginners-guide

the unnecessary killing of animals, then posting about it for clout? yes i would hate seeing that too if i was on face book

Well, we’re seeing it here. Is that any reason not to hate it? Same post.

There are people out there who are so conditioned to hate snakes, spiders, etc that their first instinct is to kill them so changing the ‘role’ might help them to get some perspective. What is obvious to some is not obvious to all.

i think we are in agreement acutely, “posts like this” meaning the ones where people kill animals for no reason.

Yep that’s what I meant. I killed this snake in my yard or I killed this spider in my kitchen. It hurts my heart that people hate these creatures so much.

There’s some irony to this being posted on aussie.zone, country of a million killer animals.

Our wildlife gets such a bad rap! 😆

Sure we have some bitey and stingy animals but the overall fatality rate is very, very low. Here are some figures (I couldn’t find any that were more up-to-date) from a quick search. Look at the animal that causes the most deaths. It’s one you no doubt have in your country too.

Being a city girl I had no idea until I heard about the dangers of working with cattle when I came to a regional area. If you want to raise your eyebrows, this will give you som ideas: https://www.worksafe.qld.gov.au/safety-and-prevention/hazards/workplace-hazards/agriculture/cattle-handling

Ah, glad you liked the place! :) Always feels good when someone says that.

Where’d you visit/live? I’m gona go way out on a limb and say Sydney. Risky choice, I know.

You took the risk… It did not pay off :D. I was in Adelaide for most of the time, though yes, I did visit Sydney for a couple weeks.

Haha! Whaaat!!! I’s gona say RAdelaide, but then I thought, too risky.

I liked Adelaide when I went there. But I’s pretty young so didn’t really explore much unfortunately.

The rate might be low, but comparing blindly to domesticated animals isn’t quite fair, since context and exposure levels drastically skew the results. Humans interact a lot with domesticated animals directly, and comparatively little with wild (and venomous) snakes.

Depends where you live 😆 . In any case, most snakes are shy and move away from people (for good reason) and will only bite if provoked accidentally or intentionally. We also have anti-venom in hospitals so deaths are pretty rare.
