Driving 4 Answers starts with a critical examination of the experience of driving the latest Toyota Prius, and winds up with an epic rant about the march of “progress” and the position of human life in the universe. Young man yells at Cloud™!
if driver aids are a concern, couldn’t you wear a condom?
I feel like people that hate these features forget that not everyone is as able-bodied as they are. “This fucking thing keeps preventing me from crashing aaaargh!”
ADAS features have made it possible for me to drive a car again for the first time in 10 years. “Use public transportation” I live in rural Canada, there isn’t public transportation and there never will be.
That’s awesome, I just wish I could turn off the things that make driving more dangerous for me.
yeah i’ve had lanekeeping systems almost cause crashes because the paint is shitty, and traction control make the car not go where i expected it to go on a slow corner because i correctly evaluated the road conditions and the computer over-corrected.
if those happened in slightly different conditions, like a highway onramp, and you’re not ready for the car to suddenly have a mind of its own it could cause exactly the problems it’s meant to prevent.
The only legitimate complaint this poser has is the data collection. Which is terrible. His whining about ADAs is fragile masculinity, not much else.
I have openpilot in my car, which doesn’t phone home. I have to bring the little doodad into my house to update software or change settings.
My only fear of driving assistance things is people becoming so reliant on them that they forget how to drive.
I’ve seen a couple people go from a car with full assist to an older one with none and it’s like they totally forgot how to stay under the speed limit or change lanes.
This isn’t a bad thing necessarily, but these features are starting to go from a luxury that can be up sold to something that the NTSB needs to require in vehicles.
He made some pretty good points here.
I can’t believe someone who doesn’t understand speed limits gets to be a car influencer. If the limit is 30 you drive 30. Don’t see pedestrians? Maybe there’s a school and kids are not out yet. Maybe it’s because of noise. This asshole is not supposed to be driving. “Follow the flow of traffic” my ass
