More and more stores are putting in those stupid turnstyles or electronic gates so you can’t just go back the way you came. Leaving the only way out via the tills, that are closed and gated so you have to push through the self checkout, lord help you if you stuck a coin in the trolley, they don’t have what you came in for and now you got to get through a till with an empty trolley so you can get it back.
It’s even worse with the shops that have an opticians or chemist in them that you can’t get to thanks to the one way exit gates.
Aarrgghhh.

I try to avoid going back to any shop that implements that utter bullshit. It already felt like joining the queue at the abattoir, now it’s just incredibly insulting.
Generally you can just go back out the same way toyu cane in. The gaurds typically have to allow it for safety reasons. The employees generally don’t care. And if they do, reward their efforts with a single finger salute.
I understand in most places you can, the motion activated barriers are one way and make a loud noise if you try a go the wrong way.
Some places have an exit gate, small and awkward to get through, but not all.
