In general i find it a really good thing that a single country can hand out a visa for the entire schengen-area, but that it is still not possible to restrict that possibility is beyond me. Russia is a hostile state, obviously not all Russians should be punished for that but some precaution against bad actors is totally logical. It’s not like this war started last week.
I think its a good thing as many Russians as possible that oppose the war can leave Russia. This makes it harder for Russia to keep their country and economy afloat and potentially reduces the people they can draft to fight. Its just theres also a decent risk of espionage which is why I think some countries, like Poland that border Russia shouldn’t have to allow Russians with European Visas to enter their country since its a security risk.
shouldn’t have to allow
Exactly, it is still either a visa for all of Schengen or no visa at all; which i find quite limited options for a case like this
I doubt that’s a good idea. That’s a great case for their propaganda to spread the idea that the outside world (out side of Russia) is our enemy and blabla. That will lead to even more russians spending more time in their own informational vacuum. Even tho I am not a huge fan of russian tourists - letting them travel is a mild way of fighting their regime.
