I recently picked up a mint Sansui au-4900 for a bargain price, so I’m looking for some speakers to pair with it. I’d rather them be of a similar vintage for the looks, and (as is always the case round here) not break the bank. I’m not after crystal sharpness, I like warmth, but I’d like some decent detail. I’ve been looking at a decent pair of Celestion Ditton 15s, but I don’t think they’ll play particularly nicely, as this amp is reputed to work best with speakers that were accused of being a little to sharp in the highs, if that makes sense. I’m in the UK for reference. Looking forward to reading your ideas!
A pair of ELAC DBR62 plus a good Subwoofer sound amazing but maybe they don’t have the look you are searching for.
Frankly they don’t look bad, but yeah, if I can find bigger more vintage looking boxes that make some bass without needing a sub I’d be made up
See if you can find a pair of Advents!
The only ones I can find over here seem to be little soft-powered computer speakers, but I don’t reckon that’s what you mean. Have you got a model number I can search for?

The originals are either “the loudspeaker” or “the smaller loudspeaker”. Later, they added advent/1, advent/2, and advent/3. You may need to replace the foam.
As a sidenote, I’m enjoying a pair of KEF Carina II speakers which might hit the mark and be easier to find!
