- Coal mine gas explosion killed at least 82 in China on Friday
- Profit-driven practices contributed to the tragedy, state media says
- Prior warning failed to prevent illegal operations
Unmarked tunnels, missing trackers and fake doors have been uncovered during an initial probe into the deadliest mining tragedy in China in over 15 years, with the government vowing to leave no stone unturned, state media reported on Tuesday.
At least 82 people were killed by a gas explosion late on Friday at the Liushenyu mine in the coal-rich province of Shanxi in northern China. Two remained unaccounted for with a further 128 hospitalised, state media said.

I read about this in Reuters a bit, there were security mandates, and violations, but they kept two sets of books, and two sets of workers, and had the illegal off the book workers in violation. The owners went so far as to paint fake doors for the inspectors. This was very purposeful, and not out of the ordinary, China is known for employers pretending to follow the rules protecting workers.
Chinese characteristics indeed. They knew what they were doing. The owners are in custody last I heard. China may well execute them, as they are wont to do. Then naturally they sell their organs.
