Just refilled my Asvine V200 pens. I go through almost a full fill of #ink in them every 12–13 days. I didn’t think I would be filling these #fountainpens as often as I am, but here we are… Guess I just #write that much with them.
Left to right these pens are filled with Diamine Jet Black, Oxford Blue, Aurora Borealis, Writer’s Blood and Imperial Purple inks. To their right is the Jinhao x750 filled with Wordsworth & Black Lavender Purple.
I love my vacuum fill pens. First I’m seeing people regularly use Asvine though. Do you know how it compares to Twsbi or Nahvalur?
They’re not bad! You’ll play a little bit of nib roulette and the vac-fillers used to occasionally have some issues where they needed the seal trimmed due to mold flash, but I haven’t seen anyone complaining about it in the last year or so. Cracks less than TWSBI (tbf they’ve fixed that issue but the meme lives on), fit isn’t perfect but there’s not slop or anything. You could do wayyy worse for a vacfiller. I much prefer Nahvalur’s nibs, but that’s probably down to personal preference.
I haven’t had any fitment issues with my pens…and I’ve bought around 20 pens from them over the last 8 months. From what I’ve seen / heard (mostly from DoodleBud’s videos), Asvine seems to be paying a lot of attention to the feedback they are getting, and have consistently been improving.
As for the nibs: they have improved their in-house nibs to the point that the real roulette is getting non-Asvine nibs. I bought one of my 200’s with a Bock nib, and it was horrible. The Asvine nibs on my v200’s, v126’s, v169’s, and v800’s have all been exceptional.
Not saying there can’t be QC issues here or there…but it seems like they’ve been working hard to eliminate as many of them as possible.
That’s awesome to hear! Mine are all from ~18 months ago and there’s some very minor issues - trim alignment or the threads being a bit iffy. I haven’t tried one of the newer nibs, but I know from experience that Bock assumes there will be tuning and a lot of places expect you just want the compatiblity that the 250 housing brings so they don’t really bother, which is pretty fair (just use the house nib if you want tuning).
Hopefully those issued are well and truly ironed out at this point! I may have to pick up one of the more recent batchs here sometime soon to
add to the teetering heapplay around with.Any thoughts on v800 vs v200?
The v800 is a Meisterstucke style pen. The reason I don’t use it is that the section is 12-13mm in diameter. The v200’s section is 10.5-11mm in diameter. I find that anything over 11mm in diameter isn’t comfortable for my long writing sessions.
However, I will say, the #8 nib on the v800 is excellent. I have it in Fine, Medium and Broad, and it provides an excellent writing experience. I really like using the broad nib for writing letters - as long as they are only a page long. ;)
My only Twsbi is an Eco, I haven’t tried their Vac filler models. Once I had tried the v126 I couldn’t look at a $70 Twsbi the same way, even though I like the Eco.
I’ve looked at the Nahvalur pens, really like the Nautilus, just haven’t wanted to pull out the wallet for it. (I’m looking at Pelikan and Conway Stewart for some bigger purchases.)
Nice. I pulled my pen out the other day. I hadn’t touched it in a while, it was all dried out. But after giving it a rinse and a twirl, it’s working again.
Nice thing about these pens - they are maintainable. Worst case for one that is heavily gunked up is getting some pen cleaner and soaking it for a while.
