I kid you not I was talking about this on mastodon literally 2 hours ago

(cough cough I need mastodon friends cough cough)
That’s why I wear men’s swim shorts. You even get to have pockets 😎 and swimwear is one of the only article of men’s wear that’s easy to find with fun colours !
Yeah, that’s how they keep you insecure and buying emotional safety from them.
You all choose this shit. Sorry not sorry.
Wife wears board shorts and a sun shirt and does just fine. And she looks great if that’s what you care about.
Oh look! Another guy who thinks that his opinion on women’s lived experience is:
- informed.
- Welcome.
- Intelligent.
This never happens! This is by no means a tiresome daily ritual that gives our poor mods daily overwork!
How does this sound if we change just two words?
Oh look! Another black guy who thinks that his opinion on white people’s lived experience is:
- informed.
- Welcome.

Misandrist behaviour. No matter what another person does, you don’t act racist towards them, nor do you act misandrist. This kind of behaviour is the lowest of the lowest a person can be.
It’d be more like a white guy coming to a space for black people and telling them that their lived experience is their fault
This is a women’s only community.
Not only are you not welcome here, but you can take your gross attitude and shove it.
Women do not choose to be subjected to the patriarchy. We are still subjected to these marketing ploys no matter what type of bathing suit we end up choosing.
Written by Elizabeth Davies, a thin fit weightlifter.
So? That doesn’t mean negative body messaging can’t get to her.
As well, even if she doesn’t feel personally affected, she can still stand in solidarity with those who are.
But in the end, it’s pretty shitty to judge someone’s body as a way to invalidate their message. Thin, fit, heavy, out-of-shape, none of that makes a different to the point she’s making about women’s swimsuit marketing.
Definitely a good thing that people like that are talking about things like that. If a fat person posted that there would be a deluge of people pointing out how to just lose weight and stop being fat and calories bro it ain’t that hard you cant outrun a fork lol you know you can even get surgery must be lazy AND stupid lmao PIGGY BTFO etc.
Someone in shape saying it? Shit, maybe its a problem.
But what IS the problem exactly? It’s just manufacturers trying to make bathing suits flattering for all different body types.
I can’t specifically nail it down, I didnt realise I was in the women’s section until it was too late, but my guess is its continuing the effort to push the ideal body type that everyone needs to aspire to.
If you dont look like [model-of-the-minute] you’re worthless. The old Barbie-Doll argument but they’re still showing us how pervasive it is even after all the ruckus
I have scoured the web and feel there is no swimwear for me available. I want full coverage and quick drying. I don’t want a poofy skirt or a billowy top. I do like bright colors. Ive taken to wearing full length yoga leggings, a swim tank, and a upf hoodie. Best I can do at this point.
Maybe try Australia sites? The sunsmart swimwear culture is strong here. Swim tops are called rashies here if that helps.
Maybe something like this site would suite your needs?
Wow! That IS exactly what I’ve been looking for. Lots of good keywords too. Thanks!
When I was still 'rocking “men’s” fashion, the ads were much simpler.
“Luxury watches. Now for luxury men, only €999.”
The fashion though, was also notably shittier in that it’s dim. Take women’s fashion, remove all the interesting patterns and curves and swirls. Change the colourfulness until it’s best described as “depressed pastel trying to be cheerful”.
Sweaters and trousers, maybe a scarf if you’re feeling avocado toasty.
There you go, that’s 99% of “men’s” fashion. Thank fuck I moved on from that and realised, why be bound by that? I now shop in whatever I like. If it’s women’s or men’s or a genderfuck, idc, if I like it I like it. :3
Being a woman in that regard liberated me, tbh. I feel men’s fashion could use some spruce up, too! skirts for men, swirls and curves, all fun stuff.
I think I could be into men if they paid more attention to their manner of dress. I find they’re usually quite colourless and plain, and that’s just not attractive to me.
Men’s color palettes are awful. I can’t count the number of times I’ve read menswear advice that tells readers to wear colors from nature, and then pretends that flowers, sunsets, and rainbows don’t exist.
Colors are good I like colors.
Maybe that’s your fault for shopping Armani?
My favourite tshirt as a man is a bold orange-yellow, and it says “pool party” in big 70’s almost austin powers style letters, and it has a picture of a pineapple and some other anthropomorphic fruit having a good time at a pool.
It’s not gonna win any fashion awards, but that’s what you get if you let men just be, instead of forcing stuff on them like e.g. an office dress code.
as a man
Rule 1: Women only.
Congrats on your transition, ma’am!
Looking out of the board room window: see grey parking lots, black railings, white cars, a single patch of green and brown trees, all under a hazy, pale blue sky.
Board members turn to each other: “Yes, these are nature colors.”
And then they forget to look at other perspectives:
a red dawn,
the orange rise, the yellow light,
a green grass
bluish water and sky
purple flowerswhite clouds and black panthers
nature is so much more colourful and unique than one might expect, and that’s the beauty of it.
Anytime someone says “do X from nature” they generally have little knowledge of what nature has.
Parasite Proboscis Pink is big in Japan currently.
I went shopping for a swimsuit last week … fuck me sideways, all the fancy stuff was either stupidly expensive, or frumpy, or full of that shaping shit.
In the end I went and got a basic one-piece that’s made for people who actually want to swim, there’s nothing extra in it - for better or worse - all eyes will be on my nipples, I’m sure.
It was really cheap, and in happy colours, too :-)

I have a 2 piece “al la carte” that I’m happy with rn but this is my plan for my next swim suit. Thanks for the idea.
Last year I paired a humankind top (it’s basically a sports bra for water) with a pair of solid-colored swim shorts from the guys’ section. The shorts have a shorter inseam but in a “men’s” way so I still get plenty of bum coverage. I feel cute in the combo, but more importantly it covers what I need to cover and (for better) does the opposite of sexualize me.
That said I definitely want to find a cute one-piece that I’m comfortable in!
If I could have found a nice cheap bikini I would totally have gone for that instead, but I could only find ugly or expensive ones this year … my last bikini top had stitching coming apart - had I realised I’d have had a go at reparing it
Trying to shop for sports leggings online: “BUTT LIFTING EFFECT”. I don’t need my butt lifted, it’s fine at its current latitude.
Besides, if I wanted my butt held up, I could just ask my partner.
If I see something on the shelf that advertises tummy control, I put it back. I like My tummy.
Sometimes a tummy manages to gain so much power, is like a congressperson running for their millionth term not out of care for their constituents, but rather just to remain in charge. It will not acquiesce power without a fight, often managing to overpower the mighty brain just to finish off the pizza without mercy.
Such a tummy is a force to be reckoned with. They must be respected.
That’s something I’ve been noticing a lot more.
Sure, I do want SOME shaping due to not having a “feminine” body shape (lol at calling it that given the topic) yet, but holy shit it gets insulting, 99% of women don’t need any form of “assistance” to look beautiful, but here they are using every way they can think of to make you feel like you NEED this.
The only thing I want shaped is a little fold on my stomach due to losing too much weight that still hasn’t gone away fully, and I like a little hip padding since my real hips are basically a flat wall. And my stomach issues can be fixed with a mildly snug undershirt, so I don’t even need shapewear above my hips.
You don’t need “tummy control”, you need a less shitty ad-focused world.
My special move, ULTRA TUMMY CONTROL, allows me to induce extreme indigestion pains in any stomach-having person within a 20 metre radius.
You should try to get to the Senate floor, or maybe the Met Gala.
