Adam Friedland is Jewish but not Zionist. He has said that the existence of Israel makes he feel ashamed to be Jewish. He said that he became anti-Israel after his parents made him go on birthright trip as a youth and saw the mistreatment of Palestinian people. Adam told Congressman Ritchie Torres to stop supporting Israel.

I get that Adam is offensive and often says problematic things, but I don’t think he’s Zionist. If Adam was Zionist, he would be living in Israel; he lives in New York.

Ritchie Torres is a sitting congressman of the US government. That means that he has power and notoriety. Ritchie did the interview thinking that Adam would be on the side of Israel. Adam criticized Ritchie in the interview enough that Ritchie walked out mid-interview. This made Ritchie Torres look very bad.
There is no reason for him to not have done an interview that makes the congressman look bad. Making bad congressmen look bad is a good thing.
This is flat out misrepresenting Adam’s open positions on the conflict, Bernie Sanders (do you consider him a Zionist BTW?), etcetera, & the purpose of attracting + humanizing the figures he does. I watched that interview, all his invididualistic bawling about how Israel’s crimes affect the family of their supporters abroad, it just wasn’t even worth mentioning. Not how I approach most issues, but I think it can be rhetorically effective to just try to hammer home how horrible Zionism trying to make Judaism synonymous with its evil is, and part of that is how it indoctrinates Jewish kids into basically believing that they are inherently obliged to support this fascist project.

This is a Zionist talking point. Zionists believe that practicing Judaism is the same as being a Zionist. This is not true. Most Zionists are not even Jewish. Most Zionists are Protestant Christians. Judaism is thousands of years old. Zionism is around 100 years old.
To answer your other post, Bernie Sander is a Zionist and he lived in Israel in the 1960s. Bernie Sanders is a Zionist because he thinks that Israel should continue to exist, not because he’s Jewish.
