On a serious note, this was and probably is still done with animals.
Sharks get their fin cut off and thrown back, seal babys had their fur ripped off and were thrown back on the ice to crawl their last bloody meters, dogs are pushed into fire to cook/grill them (alive of course), some fish are grilled alive, so they still move a bit on the plate to show how fresh they are…
