I’m considering joining a CSA for summer produce …….

But getting produce this way can be expensive so not everyone can do it, but this one place also spends part of our shares to offer

  • “Food For All” where they offer half price food shares on request, no paperwork or shame involved!
  • you can buy shares with SNAP at subsidized prices so it’s at least comparable to grocery stores, but then put money back on your SNAP card!

    that’s so great!

maybe x-post this to !frugal@lemmy.world ? They might be interested to know CSAs sometimes have options like this.

How do they put the money back on the SNAP card, I’m not sure I understand - or is it more like a “rebate” where you pay for the full shares with SNAP, and they refund part of it? Seems weird, I would have expected a discount for using SNAP rather than transacting the full amount.

Unfortunately I didn’t find any details but it’s a fixed amount per family, $80, so not a reimbursement.

They definitely have a discount too, but yeah, two different ways of making it easier to afford this on snap is a complicated way of doing it

Community Supported Agriculture. Farms that grow an actual variety of food, of which you can subscribe to receive a share of. Typically a regular box of seasonal fresh foods.

Not always farms, sometimes they’ll partner with local businesses too. My local CSA offers coffee from local roasters.
