VOY s5e11 “Latent Image”
Concerning the title parentheses, here’s the tumblr copypasta Star Trek Voyager Gothic.
I’ve never seen “Star Trek Voyager Gothic” before, and it’s just perfection.
I reread it every few months. It’s hilariously true and yet you feel his frustration.
You go to Engineering looking for Lt. Carey. You haven’t seen him in two years. He’s ‘not there right now, but should be back in a minute’.
lmfao I love that Lt. Carey keeps coming up. WHY ISN’T ANYONE ELSE CONCERNED!?
After pleading your case and getting sent to see the Doc:

Did they ever officially explain the shuttle situation away by claiming Voyager had industrial replicators on board? I vaguely remember something about it in Lower Decks.
Went to Memory Alpha and looked up industrial replicators (mentioned on DS9), which led me to vehicle replicators (used in PRO), then this little note at the bottom of the page:
Background
According to showrunners Kevin and Dan Hageman, the Vehicle Replicator was inspired by the situation on Star Trek: Voyager where the ship somehow had so many shuttles over the years. They reasoned that Starfleet’s food-making replicators could be scaled up to create things the size of shuttles and the Runaway. (PRO Season 1, Volume 1 Blu-ray, Special Features, Gadgets & Gear, Vehicle Replicator)
They know they goofed.
Side note - Runaway? Did they (kevin and dan) seriously screw up Runabout because of the name of a disco episode?
It’s the name of the ground vehicle.

See this is why they pay you the big bucks.
glares at other mods

Oooooh it was Prodigy that had them, not LD. I knew I remembered them from somewhere! Thanks for looking that up.
Starfleet has no issue modifying anyone’s memories. Remember what they did to Sarjenka? I believe Pulaski said it worked on many species.
Maybe a badmiral used a memory wipe on us when we weren’t looking…
Or we’re all just androids…

Voyager Gothic’s a fun piece, but for what it’s worth, Latent Image does a good job of putting us in the Doctor’s
shoesholo emitters.“Who you going to save Doc, the eternal ensign we all know and love, or the person who’s apparently been here the whole time but just hasn’t left a huge impression?”
And he bemoans himself for picking based on familiarity. The fucked up thing is that there’s no real resolution. He’s still recuperating in the holodeck when the credits role.
“Here begins a new life.”
Sometimes there’s no real resolution. Just moving forward.
