    Explanation: The English nation (and it’s name) is derived from a group of Germanic tribes known as the Anglo-Saxons, who migrated into Britannia and displaced the natives. For this reason, they are sometimes known, in poetic or rhetoric terms, as “Anglos” or “Saxons”.

    Ireland spent a good deal of time under English rule, and was not happy about it; as such, they used ‘Saxon’ pretty freely in the 19th century in anti-English invective.

    … but ORIGINAL Saxons still existed for most of the 19th century as an independent state! The Kingdom of Saxony, in Germany!

    Words can kill! So be careful about that friendly fire!
