Dude has 30k people watching his streams at all times.
Because the many myths & illusions of America are losing their hold over people but there is no large, ever-present socialist movement to educate them. To people like you and me Hasan isn’t that radical but for people who are fresh off the teat of the propaganda machine, whose eyes have yet to adjust to the bright Sunny sky, he and people like him are a breath of fresh air in a city full of smog. The mistake I think some people make is that just because somebody started with Hasan doesn’t mean they won’t outgrow him. Succdems are still succdems at the end of the day, but they are good for waking people up. I myself used to be a Bernie girl and now Bernie is too right-wing for me. It’s always refreshing to discover people with a platform who share your beliefs to help convince you that you’re not crazy and to give you more confidence in what you believe in. For me that was Bernie and for some that is Mamdani or Hasan.
Honestly, Hasan has probably led more people to radicalizing than every US socialist party combined. Which is tragic in its own way but without people like him forcing liberals to actually use their critical thinking skills they’re never going to find their way to Marxism. Hasan especially is important here since unlike a lot of SocDems he doesn’t write off “Tankies” automatically.
I don’t hate the guy and I hope he gets more radical with time. I appreciate what he’s doing, nevertheless.
His takes are liberal and west friendly, unlike someone like Yugopnik and Madeline. He functions as the entrance to the left pipeline.
And still the average American on TV calls him ‘terrorist’ and ‘anti-semitic’. That’s how right wing the rest of the country is.
In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king.
Easy-to-digest prison slop. That’s harsh, but it truly is just easily accessible to those wanting to be ‘pink’-flavored Social-Democrats. It’s ‘left’ branding plastered onto an unreconcillable Social-Democratic attitude that insists on a reformist trajectory (especially in regards to The Party, organizing, etc.) *sorry if I made no sense, got off work.
The thing that got me to watch him, and sent me down the pipeline to where I am now, is because he was a fellow Muslim in the West who would ruthlessly call out American Islamaphobia on YouTube.
Arguably a parasocial reason but I stayed due to the leftism. Now I don’t watch him much, but I sometimes tune into a some videos of either American News, West Asia news, or reactions to videos I’ve seem already. Mainly because I think Hassan is a good “windvale” so to speak on the trajectory of baby leftists and American “progressives”.
It’s helpful in understanding where people are still combating their liberalism and what snags they come across as they move further down socialist thought.
I’ve put his stream on in the background before when Big News is happening because for all my disagreements with Hasan he’s significantly more tolerable than any mainstream news outlet in the US.
I can’t speak to what draws his dedicated views in such numbers, but I can tell you what stands out about him to me: Good faith sincerity stands out in a region overflowing with grifters. That is, the convincing appearance of it anyway. He could have skeletons in his closet for all I know. Maybe he’s a really good actor. But from what I’ve seen, he comes off like somebody who is really trying his damnedest to be fair and sincere, and go through things in detail. Doesn’t mean he has all the right takes of course. It’s just more pleasant in its way, I think, amid all the corporate shlock or “authentic youtubers” whose takes sound suspiciously like every garden variety liberal who has never tried to understand politics beyond “some people are greedy and bad”.
If he were a clear ML, I’d probably watch him more than rarely. But unfortunately, the likelihood is I’m going to be cringing on a lot of his takes and wanting him to take it further than he is. Which is a way I feel about most youtuber/podcaster commentators. If I watch only to feel like I need to argue/correct them, then it’s probably not worth it. I want to be learning things I can take away from the time.
Idk they despise veganism and enjoy getting yelled at?
4 words: Congress for Cultural Freedom.
because people want to fuck him basically
I mean… ¯_(ツ)_/¯
I honestly think most of his success comes from being insanely attractive. He also captured the market early on, many people, like myself, just enjoy watching media coverage from someone decent.
He is overall good tho he does make a lot of concessions to liberals to the point that i just think he is a liberal that just read some marxist theory on college.
He delivers leftist takes in a way people can understand, he’s attractive, his streaming schedule is consistent, and he’s basically the only one in his place in that pipeline.
Also he’s got a cute dog in the background so that as well
He’s educated, gives a point of view most streamers don’t since he’s a leftist, and his takes have been proven correct over and over again.
He’s also very consistent both with his views and his streaming.
Search me. Given the paucity of useful information per unit of time, I don’t know how any streamer is popular. I guess there’e a parasocial draw that doesn’t click for me.
If it makes you feel better, I don’t know who that is!!
That does actually :)
Yay!
Downvoted? Must be a parasocial viewer who hasnt realized hes a lib yet.
