Largely funded by Salmond true believers and transphobes in narrative, so no surprise with Salmond in the ground and Swinney changing his tune on trans rights. But I also suspect a schism that cost the SNP last Holyrood election at least a few seats. And, a place to show dissatisfaction with the handling of independence, they also regularly spoke out against the Scottish Government. Reportedly with 5,000 members also. Making this a mixed bag for a party dissapearing in Scotland, we are both richer (mostly) and poorer (slightly) for the loss of The Alba Party (2021-2026)

Huh. Well I hadn’t heard much from them in a while

While I am firmly entrenched in the camp that Alba is (or was, now, lol) a bunch of raging arseholes, I do still hold that it feels like “conservative pro-indy” is something of an obvious gap in the market in Scottish politics. Alba seemed like they were trying to fill that. Maybe it’s less of a position than I think it is, but with the likes of Forbes in the SNP it definitely exists

Everything just keeps going the SNPs way. All they need now is for the greens to totally screw it and they will have total control. Not saying that’s good or bad just find it funny given where the SNP were only a couple of years ago.

I mean, their former treasurer and their Leader’s spouse was just being put under further charges of forging documents relating to the donor irregularities. For some reason this whole corruption story has been brushed over by the media but it is damning. Civil servant friend told me the most senior civil servant in another department passed Nicola in the corridor and gave her a lecturer about money launderers not being wanted in the Scottish govt; granted this was a few days after it happened as it is unclear how estranged the couple were.

For balance, same friend - who I’d describe as a bit of a Tory boy stereotype - absolutely loves John Swinney. Apparently he is wonderful to work with and has a strong sense of civil duty. Makes it clear he never wanted the job but took it on as a duty to party and country.
