Curious to know if there are other women who have chosen to not shave!

Why did you decide to forgo the razor and how do you feel about it now?

I’ve always been a bit anti-establishment and don’t ascribe to many society held standards for women. But I still shaved most of my body hair from the time I was a teenager until a couple of years ago. The journey through deciding to not shave and then going out into the world hairy really surprised me - I felt a freedom that I wasn’t expecting to feel so relieving. Empowering.

So I’m curious - what’s your shaving or not shaving journey?

I could not go razer free till I get permanent hair removal. Body hair causes me way too much dysphoria to just let it run wild. Have to shave my face daily to keep it from getting scratchy and uncomfortable. Thanks to hrt the rest of my body can wait a little while between shaves rather than it needing to be every Saturday on the dot.

I hate shaving so I don’t do it anymore. My husband understands.

Sometimes I ponder shaving my armpits still, cause the deoderant seems to work better after that.

I’m just lazy. I cleanshave armpits/legs, maybe twice a year if I’m going to a wedding or something fancy. I trim my pubes and sometimes my armpits with an electric razor because they get uncomfortable if too long, but even then that’s like once a month at best.

When I was younger I used to shave everywhere all the time. And theres still a lot of stigma in my family about not shaving (read: my mom is rude AF about it). But I’m an adult and I don’t live near her anymore and I do what I want.

I don’t necessarily feel empowered either way, I just don’t care anymore. If anyone has an issue with it, that’s a them problem.

I never really started. In high school I kind of fitfully shaved my armpits here and there, but not regularly and when I did I was reminded of why I didn’t.

If someone doesn’t like me as I am, they can look elsewhere. It’s a them problem, not a me one.

When I was younger i didn’t shave because I thought it was weird. Sometimes I would shave depending on what i was wearing and setting. Now I can’t shave because my skin has hates it and takes months to recover. If I’m going anywhere out of my comfort zone, I’ll wear long sleeves and pants. Saves razor damage and UV damage. Pretty ok.

I have been doing a lot lot of permanent hair removal lately because i dont like it personally, but I also don’t judge others on it.

Mostly my issue is that shaving causes serious itchiness that I have a hard time ignoring after a day or so, but also I dont like the way hair feels or the feeling of very light wind which my body sometimes interprets as a wet feeling for whatever reason or feels ticklish and then I have to itch it. I do leave some pubes and just trim them to keep them from feeling dirty, but those are less often actually seen. That said I do have some neurodivergent traits, so probably just me.

I have an IPL gun which gets most of the darker, thicker hairs, and have had laser and electrolysis on various areas. Lots of nearly invisible peach fuzz I still sometimes shave, though, since that’s harder to get rid of permanently.

      No judgment here either :)

Yes the itchiness!! My skin is so sensitive and I would get “strawberry” legs after shaving which I never liked. If permanent hair removal was more advanced or worked better with my thick hair, I probably would have done so years ago.

I recently went on a beach vacation without shaving and my goodness, it was so much better for my skin to leave the hair!

Depends on your skin tone, but if you have lighter skin and darker hair, the contrast is what you need, then laser and IPL work especially well on thicker hair. It’s not a one and done kind of thing, though, especially if you have really resilient hair, like me, lol.

That’s why I got a cheap IPL gun to do maintenance. But on my legs, which had the thickest, darkest hair besides pubes, that cheapo gun has worked great. I get the occasional straggler or small group of hair that I zap with the gun and it’s gone. But all of that hair is also really thin now when it comes back.

Great advice! If I was younger, I would totally try it. Must be really nice to just take care of it every once in a while and be so smooth! I do miss that sensation of getting into bed with freshly smooth legs haha

Now that I’ve grown out my body hair, I don’t know if I could ever go back to hair removal tbh.

I dropped shaving my legs after highschool. I’m not that hairy so its a piontless chore, I do still feel the need to shave the armpits if I’m wearing something sleeveless. (Which is rare) Even more so on the ocation I wear a formal-ish dress.

I wish It didn’t matter to me but it inevitably draws the kind of attention that I loathe.

I thought I would get more looks or negative attention for not shaving, but I’ve been pleasantly surprised! This could be pretty location dependent since I live somewhere rather progressive. Totally understand wanting to limit any reactions related to that though. Women’s bodies are still quite the open subject for people to comment on unfortunately.
