Christian Dominionism. A shockingly large number of Congressional Republicans and their donors believe a war for the Holy Land is part of a prophecy that ends in Christ returning and the US ruling the world.

This is not hyperbole. This is what people in power are making decisions based on right now.

    Christian Dominionism

the US ruling the whole world

Seems like they skipped the part of the Armageddon storyline where the entire world goes to shit and becomes a fire and brimstone hellscape plagued by demons torturing everybody that doesnt get evacuated by Jesus beforehand or whatever

That’s where their particularly heinous brand of cult thinking comes in. According to their interpretation of a very few specific verses, the US will be spared if it’s a “Christian kingdom” at the time of Armageddon.

this particular flavor of lunacy isn’t exactly being pushed on the front page of trad-cath instagram feeds, but it’s definitely doing the rounds in these weird online rabbit holes

I don’t know about all of them, but prominent adherents include Ron DeSantis, Mike Johnson, Kari Lake, etc.

Look into the “New Apostolic Reformation” and the Seven Mountains Mandate.

This is why religion should never be allowed to guide policy decisions. These fucking idiots are trying to end the world.

Jesus has been dead for a while now and he ain’t coming back but, if God raised him again, why would he be on the side of Nu Rome? I guess Americans are deluded, amoral and illiterate enough to think their murdering and pillaging is something big J would agree with, lol.

Hey now… don’t lump all of us in with those idiots. That is the unfortunate result of generational propaganda/brainwashing by shitbags with too much money. If only half of the population falls for it, we get this.

What a coincidence! I bet Iranian soldiers were told this war signals the coming of Imam Mehdi with Jesus right behind him.

(I wish I was making this up. Twelver shias have a similar myth that’s taken very seriously.)

Israel army is also plagued with religious movement saying that their war is going to bring the messiah. I don’t know if it is supposed to be the same one.

I wouldn’t use plagued here. Modern Israel is literally built on that set of religious beliefs.

In the other article (in french) I posted. It is said that Israel army used to be pretty laic for quite a long time up to the point it opened itself to women and LGBT recruits but that a religious movement started to take over in 2006 and progressively grew in importance over the years. It also changed who is joining the army. Now there are more people coming from the colonies and orthodoxes. So even if the very roots of Israel are religious it still make a difference.

I read it. But yeah, when basing a country on religious beliefs, can’t really call it a plague when said beliefs come back to bite your ass.
