Tesla registrations in Queensland have been in steady decline since the electric car manufacturer’s CEO, Elon Musk, fully embraced the far-right in the US and around the globe.

Data from the Department of Transport and Main Roads show annual Tesla registrations decreased by 34.97 per cent between 2023 and 2025.

That came on the back of a 245.31 per cent increase between 2021 and 2023 – and 1144.89 per cent between 2020 and 2023.

    I own a BYD

It’s a great car, without the bullshit

I can’t fault the build quality, and Tesla rely on BYD tech to actually make them go anyway, so why bother with a Swasticar?

Tesla are collecting from the cameras, microphones, location, etc.

I don’t need an app for my car (dunno if Tesla requires one, I have never even considered one because of the build quality issues and the fact that Elmo is a fucking nazi)

You don’t need an app to use a Tesla, but you’re missing out on a lot by not using it if you own one.

Probably the same for many OEMs.

I initially put down a deposit on a Cybertruck at announcement, figured I might use it for camping.

Decided against it because it didn’t meet my quality and feature requirements at release.

Had one drive across in front of me in a hardware store parking lot with a big Trump sticker in the window, suggesting he was riding along.

So glad I never had one. Just no.

It’s a very different experience than seeing just any old car with a political bumper sticker on it. It’s not like it’s a big deal if somebody else with a Carola or Blazer happens to have differing political views.

The pro-Tesla group were primarily very environmentally savvy and mostly liberal for the longest time. Then it suddenly shifted into some really nasty cult BS.

On the flip side, there are still a lot of model 3s and Ss and Ys in the area, and I don’t think I’ve ever even seen a sticker on one of those cars, and I’ve never known their owners to be crazy Elon cult jerks (I’m sure some are, just my experience here).

I wouldn’t buy one now, but they used to just seem like cool and more sustainable cars.

It’s a real share Elon had to ruin that.

My hope is that he is removed from the equation and the company can shake off the cult and get back to doing well as a smaller clean car manufacturer.

The contempt that Australians have for Seppo trucks such as Silverados, RAMs and F-trucks is real. Basically, the consensus is that all people who drive these trucks have “body issues” below the waist.

Except for the Technophiles, and Enviro-nerds the consensus is that Tesla Drivers also have Self-confidence issues with their communication skills.

There is no overlap between these two demographics so there is no market in Australia for the Cybertruck.

if there’s one thing aussies won’t tolerate, it’s far right cockery. Dutton learnt that the hard way.

I don’t have high hopes for Queensland or Australia as a whole (fuck we are racist)… but glad to hear some things actually trickle down.
