A quarter of those it surveyed in Australia said the “mateship” they feel with other Australians, as well as how they “lend a hand” in times of need, such as natural disasters, were a source of pride.
The topics that Australians least cited as a source of pride included: religion, military, and surprisingly — sport.
Okay, that one is genuinely surprising.
I’m surprised that I’m surprised.
I’m proud of some of our sane government policies. Preferential voting, health care, welfare, some environmental policies.
Preferential voting is a huge step further than most other Western countries. Huge. To the point where states using FPTP should seriously hesitate in calling themselves democratic at all.
I’m only ever proud of this country when people are allowed to be themselves.
