Seems so unnecessary for Perth, all the protests I have been to in the last couple of years have been super peaceful and respectful.
Yeah, really feels like a ‘keeping up with the jones’. I mean disrupt burrup protestors were probably the most consequential in the last few years here, and they’ve been pretty badly stamped upon by a quite authoritarian reaction from the cops. Not sure theres even a case here for more powers, but there you go.
After reading the article I found a link to this gem when I continued scrolling.
“Schedule 5 has very serious implications,” Ms Shearer said. “This measure gives government officials power to strip benefits received through the social security and family payments system from a person subject to an arrest warrant, even though that person has not been convicted of any offence.”
Wtf, what a gem!
Why is everyone so hell bent on neglecting the fundamental tenets on which a peaceful, and prosperous Australia relies.
Do these politicians not understand the moral and practical principles behind due process and presumption of innocence?
Small L liberals never letting a tragedy, and an opportunity to placate the ruling class, go to waste…
What’s so fucking stupid about all these laws in various states is that hate speech is already illegal. These laws in various states are about clamping down on speech they don’t like.
Just you wait, pro-palestine rallies will be ruled “hateful”, and when they go ahead anyway, will be brutalised like they were in Sydney.
We are witnessing a decline in Australian democracy, and we best be showing up to fight against it.
