I think that GrapheneOS could really benefit from some small options to tweak the system, such as fonts and emoji. Root bypasses the security model, so reducing the need to rely on root would be a good harm reduction strategy. Sort of like how sandboxed Google Play Services reduces the harm for people who need to rely on it. Maybe even upstream could accept it.
GrapheneOS is a bit lacking in these areas. However, you could make a suggestion in their Official Development Forum and see if it gets some traction.
It would be interesting to see how open to refinement suggestions the grapheneOS team is now.
In the past, my observations was that suggestions like this were typically met with open hostility based on lack of developer timenwith responses like “write it yourself”…
I understand developer pressure and prioritisation (I’m a product manager!) so “it is on the backlog” is totally an acceptable option!
It will be interesting to see what changes with the change of project leadership.
Nice - I’d be for this. Plus more customizability is always a good thing, at least from the end-user perspective.
