I don’t get it.
Alternative and much darker theory, the “snow” is ash from burning bodies. Happened near holocaust death camps due to the sheer amount of people being burned. Seen it with wildfires as well, but his mom’s reaction has me thinking it’s the former
Huh, I assumed it was nuclear winter / fallout situation…
I thought about asbestos.
Snow can be magical, whimsical, and fun (Calvin) or a back-breaking nuisance to clean up plus road conditions get dangerous, and property damage can rear up (parents)
Alternatively: this is the end times. It’s never going to stop snowing, the parents know that snowmageddon will blot out the sun, and by this time next week the family will perish in the icy wastes. But Calvin doesn’t know that and is excited for the big snow day.
He anticipates a closed school… he’s gonna be disappointed
why?
In much of the northern United States it takes a truly absurd, downright dangerous amount of snow to get a snow day.
So the whole comic is “Calvin thinks its a school day but its not gonna be one”?
Because apparently many US schools just pivot to online learning for the day, robbing children of their snow day!
It’s fan made trash.
A fan made this? When it was spinning like that?
Feel free to point me to a published source.
I could not find any reference where this phrasing was used by Watterson.
It’s also a weird two panel layout that is the wrong shape for a newspaper comic but he was known for pushing against that so that alone says little but it is suspect.

Thanks lol
Sir, this is !okbuddyrosalyn@lemmy.world. Fan-made “trash” is our specialty.
Alternative and least dark theory: Calvin’s too short to see out his bedroom window and his parents don’t realize he knows that it’s snowing already. They’re worried about how hyper he’ll get
