I forget the women’s name, it was Olga something I think. Her boyfriend was killed by nazis so she spent her entire life savings and bought a “medium” tank for herself. She then offered the tank to russia for free under the condition she could drive it. They agreed.
She did boot camp and tank school, wrote “girlfriend’s revenge” on the side and went to war against the nazis. I believe she climbed the ladder up to tank commander.
Quick search yields the story of Mariya Oktyabrskaya.
Ok so I got the name totally wrong.
It’s a cool story regardless. Thanks for sharing.
If I’m not mistaken again the Olga I was thinking of brought Christians to russia. Her husband was killed. The party in charge bent two birch trees and tied them to the ground. They then tied each of his legs to a tree and then cut the ropes holding the tree down. As the trees snapped back from being bent they tore his body in two.
She left, raised an army somehow(not sure of details) and returned. She said she would not attack the town if each family gave her 1 pigeon. The town agreed and gave her a pigeon from each family. Her army tied a bag of sulfer and fuse to each pigeon and lit it. They then released the pigeons who flew back to the home they knew, in town… Each pigeon then caught fire and exploded in town.
The town which killed her husband was basically burned down to the ground in the resulting inferno.
There was one of these soviet ladies that said “I killed no men, just about 50 fascists” or sth like that
Which is epic.
Night Witches. Hell yeah.
Nazis, Poles, Lithuanians…just anybody really.
