It was a no from me… I don’t want an account and a dedicated launcher just to play a game that I am not even sure I’ll get into

There were so many EA games I wanted to buy.

Problem was, was this. No, I don’t want to subscribe to a service just to play something I bought off from another service on!

Imagine any other media content where you had these sorts of restrictions placed on you.

You may only watch this movie in a theatre with armed guards walking the aisles to ensure you don’t record it on your phone. You must also endure a studio driven survey before you may enter. Approved snacks are posted on the list below, you must eat at least 4 items from this list. If you are unhappy with any of the terms you may only address them through arbitration, no class actions allowed!

This is why piracy is a service delivery issue.

You’re missing the part where you give them all your contact details and they install some “metric gathering system” a.k.a. spyware in your device.

There’s plenty of media with the same level of restrictions. The difference is that Steam is putting those restrictions in a convenient bulleted list right at the point of purchase - everywhere else, you’re expected to play ball and find out as you go along.

And soon you’ll have to agree to not criticize members of the Saudi Royal Family or disparage their name…

      Sail the seas matey.

It has always been a better “customer experience” than being an actual customer.

Steam shouldn’t allow this kind of crap, much less have software support for it.

They warn you and still give you the option to buy it if it’s not a deal breaker. Let’s stop making everything more authoritarian, yeah?

Also just a heads up, your EA and Steam can only be linked once per lifetime.

It’s irreversible if it’s linked incorrectly.

When I see content that is being sold with policies that I object to, I do not buy it. There’s plenty of other stuff to do or play.

For example , I have not bought any Sims game since 2.

I bought red dead redemption 2 on sale, didn’t pay attention to those things, saw it demanded I create an account to play it, I closed it and refunded it.

      Fuck this practice.

Turns out you need the orion launcher for this particular game, which is impossible to gmlog into because youre logged into the EA launcher too, but your passwords are different too? How did you manage that?

Anyway, these launchers are for our convenience so just enjoy the convenience

I hate when I try to load up an old game in my library only to find out that I need to log in to another launcher to which I’ve forgotten my password to.

But I am still frustrated that this is the reason that I didn’t buy it

It was worse in the 70’s. We had to fill out a lot of forms in triplicate, using real carbon copy paper, and have them vetted and approved by the local municipal government, just to play tag.
