“quotation” AND “marks”
or for a phrase: “a phrase”
Spamming double quotation marks.
Other search tips:
- Give up the idea the first search will give you the result you want. Instead, refine further the search based on the results you don’t want.
- Typically you want to wrap each individual word with quotation marks, otherwise you’ll only find the words in the specific order you asked for. For example,
"potato knish"won’t match a result showing"I had a potato, so I prepared some knish today", but"potato" "knish"will. - Use a minus to exclude results with a keyword. Useful if the search engine assumes what you mean, is trying to force you into a certain site, or SEO-shitted results often contain that keyword.
- Use multiple search engines, as they show different results. For example: currently I feel like DuckDuckGo is way better than Google, but if I can’t find something in DDG I try Google.
- Remove visual distractions, that increase cognitive load and make finding good results feel even more laborious. uBlock Origin is good against those, even the ones that are not advertisement. Specialised extensions (like “Hide Google AI Overviews”, “Google Search Ad Remover And Customizer” etc.) also work nicely.
- If some fucking SEO crap keeps popping up, use uBlacklist to remove it from the results.
