Catherine Jestin, executive vice president of digital at Airbus, told The Register: “I need a sovereign cloud, as some of the information is extremely sensitive from a national and European perspective.” The main reason for the decision is the availability of new software.
Airbus’ tender is scheduled to begin in January 2026 and a decision will be made by the summer of 2026. The value of the order is estimated at 50 million euros and the execution is estimated to be a period of ten years. According to The Register, however, Jestin doubts that European cloud providers have sufficient capacity.
