Hey all!

It’s been a fun journey learning guitar. I feel like I’ve progressed pretty fast to get a great baseline for playing. I practice too much…like 1-5 hours a day almost every day. I know it’s an endless journey of learning and creating which I’m still overly enthusiastic about and can’t wait to be able to share more with the world as I continue to get better.

I wanted to see how this sub thinks of my current playing. I don’t have too many friends in my life that I can lean on for support or feedback (or that care) so I figured I’d put stuff on here. hopefully this is allowed.

please take a listen and let me know your feedback. good, bad, neutral. it’s all good. all information/feedback is welcome and will be taken with smiles and a drive to better myself.

Me just having fun starting up the neck for the first time. - https://foldr.space/f/wfwwHhdwX8iLWMES/having-fun.mp3

Sound countryish twang playing I felt about 2 months ago and have been working on clarity - https://foldr.space/f/VImNiZ6MiZ8OM4nA/early-twang.mp3

more countryish stuff, playing with hammerons and single note changes to new chord - https://foldr.space/f/ygTNR8Tsl4GfcENx/that-twang.mp3

Thanks and I hope to be able to post something like this again in the future with longer clips, better timing (my current main focus) tone and picking accuracy.

links only last a week… I’ll try to delete after to avoid 8day viewers from being confused asking for reuploads

edit: I should add that my guitar is the Martin Jr10e cutaway. absolutely love this guitar. recently started using picks too, all 3 clips above were with a pick. those cat tongue ones since all the other ones kept slipping and still do lol. previously 0-3 months was purely fingerstyle.

I’ve been playing for almost a couple years (I think) and I play a COMPLETELY different style to this, but to my ear that’s pretty fucking great for 4 months. I would have thought at least a year if I had to guess.

thank you, I feel I’m doing good myself but it’s nice to have some confirmation .

this has been a lot of visual learning on my side too as well as moving from tabs (I find reading tabs slow) to using sheet music and just referencing the chord I need. It really helps me to see how others are playing (a lot of Billy strings music), and try to mirror/play along.

I’m really starting to push into more caged right now to expand on the neck skills, and timing… timing is really rewiring my brain in a good way.

thanks for checking it out and replying, really appreciate it :)

No problem :). I play a couple very particular styles of metal on guitar only, and basically no guitar theory, I also can’t play to a metronome. However I do have a sort of “natural guitar feel/sense” which lets me get away with it so far. I’m basically bluffing my way through it tbh, but it doesn’t really matter cus I only play for myself and my own enjoyment. But yeah, you sound almost tighter than me already!

I’m not very experienced but it sounds good to me. Any songs or techniques you’re working on lately? For picks I like the dadarrio thumb picks or the big fat Dunlop big stubby I got used to using on bass. They have a little recess in the middle that helps grip.

I will check out those picks, learning how to use picks right now and I can already see the difference in a few that I have.

no specific songs, I have end song goals I want to play but I’m moreso focusing on the fretboard, techniques and just developing my style.

specific techniques, I’m not too sure. I guess cross picking is a major thing. working on my accuracy and maintaining tempo mostly. knowing the idea behind the caged system is helping a lot as it lets me travel from. one chord to another with the journey between the two chords sounding nice.
