If you haven’t watched @11foot8plus8 videos, they’re absolutely astounding. The city of Durham raised the bridge by 8 inches a while back and drivers STILL get their truck roofs shredded on a semi regular basis. Like how the fuck do you solve this problem without just banning cars?

This is a pet peeve of mine, I was so sad when they rose the bridge :(

For reference, the bridge is under the normal minimum legal height, but it has a railway on top and a sewer below so it can’t be easily heightened.

Who doesn’t love a classic Penske Peel in the morning, amirite?

put a 1000 more of those height bars at every intersection everywhere around this bridge, so the trucks that get stuck are spread out over a larger area :D

      “OVERHEIGHT, MUST TURN”
Dude in the large commercial truck: “Must be talking about the camry next to me”

  • lol, these were old when i was young. i can’t believe they gave people an extra 8" of clearance. they should have lowered it 4’ with a big steel beam that says “you’re going to die” with flashing lights.

the guy who set up the cam to catch these and upload them is an old school internet king.

ive driven tall vehicles and oversized shit before, and only true bozos drive em around like their a 1992 Honda Civic. this particular road has so many high tech, flashing warning signs before you reach the bridge, and every single person in these videos has ignored them all.

    it’s just magnificent.

i used to live and work around this desolate, rural place where some mega rich asshole had a vacation home. the driveway started at a 3 way stop. if you turned right, you stayed in the road, if you went straight you went up the private driveway.

people kept driving up the driveway, for years. they added signs at the corner (TURN RIGHT) and scary signs saying “⛔ NO ENTRY” for the driveway. it was impossible not to see them.

eventually, given the political power of the rich guy, they rerouted the entire road with a curve so that following the curve made going “straight” into the original right turn and the driveway became an awkward/hidden left. an impressive feat of engineering. with satellite photos, one can just barely see the lines of the old straight cut pathways, now covered with grass and landscaping.

it probably cost like a million dollars, lmao. one can only hope that it cut down on the oblivious cruising up this guy’s driveway, but sometimes i wonder if anything will ever be enough to be truly “foolproof”.
