Almost every old CoD game has this issue unfortunately. And too little people play them for Activision to bother fixing them.
So kernel level anti-cheat can be cracked and even exploited like this, who would have ever guessed…
It’s probably not the anti cheat that is being exploited, or at least there is no indication of it and it’s not necessary for rce.
Apex legend had the same a while back and the don’t use kernel acApex Legends does use Kernel anticheat
My bad. Was EAC kernel level since the beginning? I thought it wasn’t when Apex was released, so maybe that changed but I can’t find anything on Google.
Edit: Still couldn’t find anything on Google so I asked a LLM and seems like it was added after the game’s release. Ofc it may be entirely made up, as I can’t verify the info.
Still I’m pretty sure it’s not a fault in the anti cheat, games have much wider attack surface and game dev are not generally experts on cyber sec. Plus both CoD and Apex are based on older engines who had their code reverse engineered, leaked or were public.
An RCE was already discovered on the older MW2 so it could have been ported to the recent games.
And now I’m officially 100% done with gaming, since that’s the last game I’d continued playing from time to time (when I have a spare few minutes and a whim to fire it up, that is).
Oh well, part of getting older. I think I also have Halo and a Modern Warfare on that XBox, but, meh. WWII was the best CoD (the most fun, at least to me).
