They’ve always taken the concept of privacy to such an extreme. What is happening there that they’ve started pushing so hard in the opposite direction?
This is just a proposal and unlikely to go anywhere.
One of the most popular privacy guarded countries, and now it’s at a risk. Might as well either drop using Proton mail and find another private country and a new software. Even if just temporary, because if this law does not pass then now you have a back up encrypted email service. this experiment is a win-win. Don’t lose when you find out Proton mail is no longer private at the last second act now.
I think we need better ways to self host email
I bet proton will move out of Switzerland if this becomes a law.
They have said they will move when it does.
How?
Isn’t that where the humans behind the scenes live?
What if there is a situation where they just don’t.
Protons CEO has said they will leave Switzerland if the law goes through.
Sounds good. still doesn’t hurt to have an alternative to jump ship.
It is almost like we should not rely on a single country
Well, there goes ProtonMail. Let’s hope it is not enacted. I’ll wait for other neutral reports since Tuta is a major competitor. Should be a quick search.
Proton has made some statements about exiting Switzerland if these proposals become law. But who knows how long that would take and if any damage is done in the meantime.
Plus there’s other junk going on lately with Proton as a company…
Swiss law takes years — a change this big will probably go to referendum which adds a couple extra years as well. Expect this in the news for a while before anything happens.
Tuta is hardly a competitor. They don’t even do PGP encrypted email.
