I had to do one of these in a university class and I never went to that class again. I never went to the first class in anything again. It strikes me as a social stratification exercise designed put you in your place and establish who the cool people are from the start.

Or maybe people have fun hobbies or interests, and sharing them in a short statement among a small group isn’t a death sentence?

This is a social anxiety sub and standing up and being judged by 25 strangers is not sharing with a small group.

Apologies, I didn’t mean to demean anyone.

My personal anxiety in a group has been lessend by looking at the social stakes objectively.

25 people get to hear one sentence about my current obsession. If they don’t like it, fuck them, no loss to me.

Tips for those who want to share in my skill:

        • Chose a convex potato, with two almost but not entirely flat sides
        • Start on a the flattest side an peel in a short line along it, turn 180 and spiral around the peeled section until you are done
        • avoid sharp corners, they weaken the strip
        • the first and last turns are unavoidably sharp and therefore the hardest
        • the wider the strip is, the shorter in needs to be

Lol, thanks for the tips. I’ll try, but I think the funny part will be when everybody realizes my fun fact was a complete lie. My potatoes are usually 40% lighter by the time I’m done with them 😂

I actually hate these. It’s like a pissing competition to not say the same thing as the previous person and all it does is make me look like an asshole.

So one of my company’s HR people does an occasional welcome email listing our new hires. For every one of them she includes a fun fact. Some of them are alright, others are stuff like… “Fun fact about Steve: He has type 1 diabetes!”
