I don’t claim to know much about this but I guess it pulled a No Man’s Sky and patched in everything that needed to be fixed or added. And it’s half off on steam right now so I’m considering pulling the trigger. Should I?

    Always has been 👨‍🚀🔫👨‍🚀

    (On PC).

it ran like absolute shit on PS4 and Xbox One, but on current gen and PC the game has always been great. The backlash was overblown and was mostly from people who didn’t play it.

Was there bugs? Yes. People clipped into walls and cars flipped suddenly, but no worse than your average Bethesda game. I didn’t have a single game breaking bug my entire playthrough. Just some funny ones.

While some elements were deeply overblown, a lot of it was pretty bad and deserved. Don’t downplay what happened, the game was delayed and then delayed again. Only the final release date had been for after current gen hardware and they obfuscated the awful performance. Early eviews of the game had also required stock footage. And that’s just from the fiasco around launch.

Plus a lot of features were missing from the game that we expected when we pick up Cyberpunk 2077. Vehicle shooting battles (other than the start of the game), mantis blades to climb walls, and so forth.

In my opinion, it was good from day one. That always gets a lot of flak, but check it out:

    • Most of the game-breaking bugs just weren’t in the PC build. I’d argue that most of the complaints on launch were from folks playing on console, especially last gen. They had every right to be upset – the game should never have been released for last gen – but it’s important to separate issues on console from issues in the core game design.

    • The game was comically overhyped. Had you never heard anything at all about it, and you played on PC, you’d have spent the $60 and gotten a quirky, pretty action game posing as an RPG, with an engrossing story and very decent combat. I’ve played far worse games at the price point, and I had a lot of fun. I even completed my playthrough, which I frankly don’t often do.

    • There are design decisions that are strange and other things which point to clearly cut corners. Again, what was in the original package was still sufficient, imho. Was it what was promised? No. Was it an unplayable mess like many claimed? Again, on PC: no.

I don’t really know the current state of things on console (except that last gen is still a mess and isn’t supported for PL). But I’ve always wholeheartedly recommended 2077 as, tbh, a pretty solid title. Leave the hype at the door, enjoy it for what it is, and then enjoy it again when PL comes out and fixes some of the weird choices with mechanics (PL itself not required for those fixes – only the extended content, but the mechanics changes come as a general update).

If you like story driven RPGs with insanely op hacking, and beautiful grafics you should buy it. The game is still very buggy, but nowhere near as it was when it came out. To make sure that you won’t lose your progress save frequently and don’t do the diving sidequest with Judy.

I played the game in version 1.0, on release, on a barely capable 1070 graphics card, and It’s still to this day my favorite RPG ever made. The gameplay was janky and it was full of bug, but the world building, story telling, characters and quest design was on a league of its own, nothing even comes close. Buy the game, and play it only when you’re ready to immerse yourself for hours at a time. It’s a fantastic game.

I played it months ago and it totally turned into one of my favourite games of all time. Will play it again once the… DLC? Expansion? is released. Give it a chance, yeah. Or wait for that release.

It’s an incredible game imho! I’ve got around 250 hours in it by now.

Snatch the base game when you see it on sale (I think there’s one now) and get the DLC when it arrives! Not sure if you should play it right away or wait for the DLC though.

Then again, I’ve already played it a few times and going to start a new playthrough when the DLC drops!

I’m in the minority it seems. I bought the PS4/PS5 upgrade version and barely made it 30mins before shelving it. I don’t think I made it past the opening bc I had no idea wtf was happening.

I thought it was just a new story. Are they changing more than that? I was thinking about buying the game+dlc on offer over at GoG to play on my Ally when it arrives tomorrow.

        Source: https://www.reddit.com/u/headin2sound/

TL;DR: This is not a DLC. This is Cyberpunk 2.0.

        • virtually every system of the main game has been changed and/or updated
        • police system is completely reworked with multiple tiers of NCPD/mercs chasing you down in vehicles according to your wanted level, apparently on level 5 maxtac will chase you down and it will be some sort of bossfight against them (source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=riK1i8lQwRM&t=511s)
        • perks and skills have been completely overhauled, no longer simple passive stat boosts, much more active abilities like different melee finishers, a dash, or the ability to deflect bullets with melee weapons
        • an entirely new 6th skill tree that uses a different type of skill points (relic points) that will be used to add new abilities to your cyberware
        • the difficulty curve is reworked/rebalanced
        • the loot tiers are reworked
        • archetypes of enemies have been redone for more variety in combat encounters
        • installing cyberware now has an effect on your body and you cant install too much or else you will go cyberpsycho (no idea what that looks like in game)
        • installing cyberware now has a first person cutscene added to it, just like in the prologue at Vik’s clinic
        • you can now “attune” cyberware to one of your attributes, making it more efficient if you have invested in that attribute; example here optical camo is attuned to the “cool” attribute: https://i.imgur.com/1UI9SEX.png
        • armor is no longer tied to clothing, it is instead tied to your cybernetics
        • vehicle combat is added to the game, you can even use your katana on your bike
        • you will be able to hack vehicles, similar to the Watch Dogs games
        • vehicles are no longer bought from fixers, but bought through a website set up by wakako
        • some vehicles have guns installed on them (machine guns, rocket launchers)
        • new type of infinitely replayable/repeatable missions are being added where you need to steal certain vehicles marked on your map
        • new activity introduced “airdrops”, loot caches that drop randomly on the map that you can fight over and retrieve for yourself
        • tons of new random events/activities are added to make the world feel more alive, like car chases and gang fights

How much of this is going to be part of the free Patch and how much is going to be included in the DLC.

I know some overhauls will be part of the patch (Police rework and vehicle combat) but I can image they wont put everything of this list in the free patch.

For me it was good since the beginning, but it had its issues. Now it is a much better experience, that is true too. There is also a pretty good modding scene, so many parts that are still not ok can be modded out. Personally, I will probably play it again when the DLC releases in September.

Considering that the DLC will overhaul many systems of the game, you could wait until that’s out for the ‘definitive experience’.

For half off definitely give it a try. It’s long been patched and when i played it early this year my only problems were two times the game randomly closed.

Gun play is extremely satisfying, sound design included.

Driving is… better than in watch_dogs, worse than in GTA. But traveling through the world is a bit disappointing. Rich map with little life.

Side missions are fun and fill up the time nicely. The missions are creative and not necessarily “go from point A to point B while killing waves of enemies”, but those are there as well.

Driving has improved substantially since the initial release (and again recently). Driving is basically like any other driving game mechanic now.

I don’t think its a No Man’s Sky situation. Cyberpunk 2077 suffered the most from high expectations and lies told while advertising the game. The game is decent, I personally enjoyed it a lot when I bought it for 20€ a year after release. But they did not go back and add things they promised but didn’t deliver on.

Now that you mention it. There was a big refund happening on PlayStation 4, I think? Because the game was basically unplayable on console.

I wonder how these things happen sometimes. Someone must have noticed, right? How did they even do any sort of testing on these versions?

I think they developed for PS5 / Xbox Series but promised backwards compatibility with PS4 / Xbox One.

The backwards compatibility just didn’t work. The hardware couldn’t handle it as written and they scrambled to strip it down.

Not yet, anyway. There are a lot of improvements coming with the DLC, supposedly. The police overhaul on its own has the potential to add tons of replayability. Getting a wanted level & running from the cops was like 90% of my GTA IV time.

I am excited for the DLC and hope that it will be good. Its best to not buy promises tho. If the things CD Project Red promised are what is needed to make someone want to buy the game, they should wait until these things materialize.

If you’re still unsure, do what I used to do when I did PC gaming. Pirate it, and if you like it after say 2 hours, then buy it! I do wish more game companies did free 10 or 5 hours trials like EA do.
