A while back, I made an oak container using handtooled dovetails. I made it primarily to hold stationery and miscellaneous items for my desk.

The oak was “resawn” and dimensioned using a table saw and the dovetails were cut by hand. It’s a very easy project but it has come in handy.

Thanks for reading.

Very nice, and it seems to have stayed stable. How did you do the bottom?

      Thanks!

The bottom is just a butt joint held with wood glue. I didn’t think it needed another type of joint since it was just going to say on a desk. The wood was kiln dried but I can’t remember where it came from. It was probably off cuts from some other project.

The finish is many layers of Tung Oil over a few years so that probably helped prevent warping.

Tung oil is such a great choice for oak - I’ve found that warming it slightly before application makes it penetrate deeper and dry more evenly, especially if you’re doing mutliple coats over time.
