Summary

Trump’s immigration raids have sparked fear in schools across the U.S., leading to mass student absences, panic among parents, and increased community activism.

In cities like Chicago, teachers and social workers are providing emotional support and legal resources to families afraid to leave their homes.

Schools are coordinating safety plans, while advocacy groups distribute “Know Your Rights” materials.

Some educators warn that fear is disrupting learning environments, while undocumented parents prepare contingency plans for their children in case of deportation.

    Know your rights

Well, that would be simple to read. You have no rights, or if you think you do the cheeto needs one signature to take them away from you.

The only rights you have right now are the ones you defend. Active participation in your government and society are required now.

I talked to a friend about the deportations and he said he “doesn’t care” because they “broke the law.” I showed how it will hurt us economically, how these people aren’t committing crimes, how it will hurt real human beings. He said he didn’t care. I don’t know how to deal with that. This action will only create pain for everyone, hell even the elites may be minutely inconvenienced by it… why are we doing it?

Some people are legitimately so simple that “no paperwork == deportation” even if it means death and suffering. Even when they know that the “right way” to come here takes a decade and is too costly. It’s like humans have forgotten how to feel empathy. If I sat these people at the border and had them talk to the desperate mothers and fathers and children, would they be moved? How do you reason with someone that legitimately thinks “I don’t care if people die over paperwork”

It feels like we’re gleefully goose stepping toward “just following orders” and it’s horrific.

You don’t deal with them…you laugh when they are forced to pay $100 per egg, or to work the fields themselves. These people don’t give a shit and have zero logical skills to see past literal and blatant lies.

I leveled with him today and said that I was really disappointed about our conversation and I wanted to talk about it more. I approached them from a place of wanting to understand their position but also make sure they had all the information. I presented everything calmly w wide ranging sources from PBS to the Cato Institute. It’s just a straight up bad idea to deport these people. I showed him that the Heritage Foundation had no actual fact or statistics on their website to support their claims – just that illegals are illegal – he found that compelling.

He ended up saying he was not super informed and that there’s so much propaganda and information overload that it feels like we can’t even know what’s real. Everyone’s lying or has an agenda. I totally get it.

We both got a lot out of it. I think it’s worth it to try engaging with people who are actually willing.

Huh?? You’ll be paying those same prices as a result of their actions, your suggestion is to completely stop interacting?

These people aren’t computers, they’re stupid - they take a very long time to process things like abstract concepts. If we, like all of us living in the U.S., don’t figure out how to communicate to them the truth you might as well just get a gun and start shooting people - because that’s where this is heading.

A counterpoint is that allowing undocumented economic migrants in (which makes up the majority of illegal immigration) then there is reduced capacity for a country to take in and integrate refugees who are actually at risk of death or persecution.

It is disingenuous to talk about illegal immigration as if all of them are at risk of death in their country of origin, and those that are genuinely at risk are refugees and able to apply for asylum once they reach a country.

They just arrested an 18 year old Venezuelan who came here through the legal channels and was awaiting a 2027 immigration court date.

The US has failing infrastructure, stagnant wages, high inflation, high crime rates and an over burdened and extortionately expensive healthcare system.

What about those factors speaks to more capacity? If you replaced every economic migrant with a genuine refugee there would be far more humanitarian benefit overall.

The US has like four dudes who could pay for solutions to all that shit and not feel it. Three guesses why the country’s in that state? “It can barely support us as it is!” Like… It can support you and so many more, but not if the rich can help it.

Just to clear this up because of the obvious US defaultism, Im not from the USA.

None of what you have said changes the fact that if genuine refugee intake was increased and replaced economic migrants there would be a net benefit to humanity in reducing human suffering.
