Summary
Germany’s parliament will debate a proposed ban on the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) for the first time next week.
The proposal cites the AfD’s increasing radicalism and historically revisionist statements, such as co-leader Alice Weidel’s claim that Hitler was a communist.
Under Germany’s constitution, a party ban requires proof of opposition to constitutional principles.
Critics warn that a ban could portray the AfD as martyrs.
The AfD currently polls in second place at 20% ahead of February elections.
They need to discuss if a nazi party should be banned.
And that’s why these bastards always win. While the democratic parties try to fight these assholes “legally”, they can just say fuck the law since there won’t be consequences as the traditional parties try to do things the right way.
reminder that the nazis were technically called the “National socialists”, they’ve always hidden behind pleasant-sounding names.
Based if they do it but I think the lib establishment will be too cowardly.
If they do this it’ll be the best thing liberals have done since robespierre painted Paris red.
They said those who don’t understand history are doomed to repeat it, yet here we are understanding history and repeating it anyway.
those who understand history are doomed to stand and watch as the world wilfully repeats it regardless
Holy fuck, Germany, get your shit together! This is fucking unreal.
I hope this debate is fruitful. I think this is honestly the best way to get rid of fascists. Pull them out by the root before they grow too large.
The AfD is currently polling in second place on around 20% ahead of parliamentary elections on February 23.
This sounds bad. Like I know voting is for suckers but let’s not make it easy for the neo-nazis to just waltz into power…
