I‘m happy for the devs, but I shudder at the signal this sends to publishers regarding liveservice, „we just gotta keep trying, guys!“
Mwah, the game is apparently fairly lenient on microtransactions. I hope the signal is: “maybe out liveservice game shouldn’t be utter crap”.
That didn’t save plenty of other games either. So everyone is going to keep chasing this dragon to their own demise.
Concord also happened this year. The message will be “we gotta be careful”.
And thats why the slop keeps on coming and there is nothing any of us can do about it
Sure there is: spend your time and money elsewhere.
FWIW I really like this one. It doesn’t beat your head with microtransactions and it avoids FOMO by allowing you to always access previous seasons’ passes. Also every character is unlocked by default.
If you can’t have fun then no one can, right?
Considering the amount of gambling, exploitative practices, dark patterns, etc that exists in modern live-service games - saying that comes across as rather disingenuous.
It is good to hear this particular live-service game is bucking some of the recent trends, but I think it is safe to say these types of games, in general, have done damage to the industry and the wallets and minds of players. Enjoy yourselves, but be cautious and don’t let your guard down because these companies will screw you if they think they can. We have seen it so many times.
Beyond that, live service games are designed to delete themselves off the face of the earth when they stop making money rather than being a piece of the history of the medium we can revisit.
I tried it, it’s fairly decent. Although imho, they went with quantity over quality.
I think it’s a solid hit. Teamup mechanic is really interesting and actually impacts the match. Team rosters feel more flexible vs OW where specific counters are needed in most cases. I think the art style is a huge win too. It’s consistent across animation, static images, charachter design etc. They didn’t just use existing assets. Microtransactions aren’t shoved in your face. And I love how the battlepass let’s you pick and choose what you want.
Balancing characters will take time, there’s some QoL things I’d like to see, and the crashes need fixing, but really solid out the gate.
Tried it for 10 minutes and uninstalled. No depth. Back to Dota 2
If you’re coming from dota the obvious hero shooter pipeline is to deadlock.
