all social media platforms with significant financing behind them enshitify and bluesky is already there despite their promises to the contrary:
Bluesky is apparently deleting the accounts of Palestinians in Gaza under the guise of “spam.” Requests to correct this have so far gone unanswered. https://t.co/vbBfz8TFL2 pic.twitter.com/X4o7OifWlh

The site is named after a fascist flag, so not surprising
Blue… Sky? What?
According to CNET, the actual reason for the name is:
Dorsey confirmed a Bluesky user’s speculation that the name ties in to Twitter’s bird mascot, the idea being the bird could fly even more freely in an open blue sky.
The only thing I can think of is the Ukraine flag , which I believe represents a field of wheat under a blue sky, such as in this image from Kherson Oblast:
It seems like a stretch to me that the site is named after the Ukrainian flag specifically. The symbolism of blue skies is much more universal than that.
I agree, I’m not convinced the Ukrainian flag has anything to do with it either unless Dorsey said something beyond this that I wasn’t aware of.
It’s the only thing that I could think of that @SkingradGuard@hexbear.net might have meant.
This makes more sense. Thank you for clarifying
Blue
CurtainsSky Theory
iirc named after the RoC blue sky and sun flag, glorification of the KMT.
Let me know if you manage to find a source that confirms this, would be interesting to know
I don’t use either site but I have seen several people I know irl posting their Bluesky handles places so it does seem like people are moving
Bluesky will never displace twitter It’s like the wow killer argument The reason twitter and wow were popular was that they existed in a small blip of time where they were revolutionary Kinda like the blackberry phones
No one needs a twitter replacement, because we have better short form content now
Twitter will kill itself just. Like wow
But wow is doing just fine?
It’s just an addiction mill now, though. Quite different from when people found it innovative and it drew from a multitude of demographics.
I have to admit, the bluesky app is really easy to get started with. I signed up for an account out of curiousty about the platform. It was probably one of the easiest social media signup processes I’ve had in a decade. No wonder it’s picking up users fast. Of course we all know the enshitification will come, so I won’t use it regularly.
Update, decided to delete that account. I’ll never use it for personal stuff, and the defaults are flooding my feed with liberal cope on various issues.
