Android may soon open Captive Portals in an Android Custom Tab instead of a WebView, making it easier to access some public Wi-Fi networks.

      99% of captive portals are either just a dummy page, require a single button press or a checkmark to be set. At least here in Germany. The only times I had to enter any data were in Switzerland.

        Meanwhile in many melbournian shopping centres, you have to input your full legal name, date of birth, address, phone number, post code and email just to get a connection. I’d genuinely rather connect to some random person’s smart lightbulb in their house than use free wifi at shopping centres.
