Rep. Tony Gonzales (R-TX) stunned CNN’s Dana Bash on State of the UnionSunday with a scorched earth rant on far-Right House members.

“So, you voted yes on the foreign aid package,” Bash addressed Gonzales. “Do you have confidence that at this point, given that it is still possible that Marjorie Taylor Greene will push to vacate, to kick (Mike Johnson) out of the Speaker’s chair, that he can survive?”

“He will survive,” Gonzales said. “Look, the House is a rough and rowdy place, but Mike Johnson is gonna be just fine.”

Goes scorched earth, yet reveals absolutely nothing we didn’t already know.

Gonzalez faces a primary run-off at the end of May.

Four different right wing challengers held him to under 50% in the March primary.

Matt Gaetz has come into the district to campaign against him (which doubtless contributes to his words there). The runners up are endorsing his opponent (who is a far right Latino “second amendment activist” named Brandon Herrera – oh so cleverly using “Let’s Go Brandon” as a campaign theme.)

While Gonzalez is considered the favorite, the fact that the incumbent was forced into a primary run-off is never a good sign.

The district is a 53-46% Trump/Biden seat. The population nearly 2/3 Latino, but probably close to Anglo white voting majority due to issues of citizenship, age, and lower voting participation by Latinos in rural Texas. It include the site of the Uvalde massacre. It could end up in play in a strong Democratic year - especially if a candidate to the right of Gonzalez is the nominee.

Used to watch Herrera’s gun videos until he let it all hang loose. Love me some Gun Tubing, but if politics comes in, I’m out. And you can guess what sort of politics come out every time.

Thankfully we have TFB TV and Forgotten Weapons for non political guntubers. American gun politics are so annoying and convoluted with extrêmes on all sides.

First Republican representatives Ken Buck and Mike Gallagher resigned in protest of what’s happening in their party and left early to make it hurt. Earlier I read about a Murdoch-owned, Trump “favorite” newspaper mocking MTG with the headline “Nyet, Moscow Marjorie”. Now there’s this story. Maybe, just maybe, we’re starting to hit the limits of what GOP extremist politicians can do openly without self-sabotaging consequences. The timing of this infighting erupting into public view is just icing on the cake.

“Wow! Ok, I should say that the federal government did look into Matt Gaetz and those allegations and they decided not to prosecute,” Bash said.

Cause not prosecuting always means innocence. I haven’t been prosecuted for any of the drugs I’ve taken so apparently I’ve never been high.

You only comply with what you will be prosecuted/ suffer consequences for. For the GOP, it’s not much, unfortunately. For the colored guy from the inner city, it’s plenty.
